SUMMARY 04/2005

Structural-Technical and Energetic Analysis of Prefabricated Tenement Buildings

As part of the analysis of pilot complexes of selected panel systems a structural-technical and energetic analysis was conducted on the prefabricated housing stock. The pilot complexes involved were the construction complex T-06 B Brno-Slatina, and the prefabricated construction complex HKS-70 in Svitavy.

The aim of the analysis was to work out within the individual working groups (TZB, Structural Engineering, Statics and Economics):
a) an inventory of the current state of the prefabricated housing stock in selected localities;
b) a proposal for measures leading to the improvement of the quality of the operation of technical facilities and utilities and an increase in the thermal insulation of the buildings;
c) the level of investment requirements as groundwork materials for financial coverage from various resources.

By means of an assessment of the state of the buildings built using prefabricated sectional technology, the mapping of such units in terms of the quantity of flats, and the documentation of their current state and their distribution in the regions, the basis was established for the creation of a concept for the construction of new dwelling units and for the conservation of the existing housing stock in prefabricated buildings through reconstruction work. In order to reach decisions on investments and financing methods there is a fundamental need to reduce the energy consumption requirements of the buildings.

Given the fact that in the Czech Republic almost one-third of all dwelling units are in buildings constructed with the use of prefabricated sectional technology, this issue is about addressing the fundamental problem of housing for at least the next 20 years.

The Commercial - Recreational Centre in Southern Prague-Chodov

Construction is currently under way on a commercial-administrative centre in Chodov in southern Prague. The centre´s structural complex includes two extension sections supported by a steel load-bearing structure. The extensions vary in shape and height and contribute to shaping the overall appearance of the centre. The Excon Company prepared the majority of all the project materials for the steel construction, including the manufacturing and assembly materials. The two tower extensions form the dominant elements of the structure, with a circular layout in the eastern section and a square layout in the western section. The supporting roof structure of both extensions is made up of truss girders, the shape and proportions of which, in the case of the western tower, contribute to the overall appearance of the interior.

Managerial outlook IV

Health and Safety Management at Work The previous article offered introductory information on the reasons that motivate top employees to decide to introduce the Health and Safety Management System at work, and an outline of the normative materials required for the introduction and use of the system and the demands and requirements involved upon deciding to introduce the management system.

This issue´s text presents an account of the approaches used to implement the Health and Safety Management System with regard to the requirements stemming from the normative recommendations in OHSAS 18 001.

Defining the Management System While the Quality Management System is defined in terms of the work process, and the Environmental Management System focuses on all the locations that a firm has or uses for business or conducting any activities, or where its activities may have an impact, the Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) focuses on people and especially the employees of the organisation, but also focuses on other persons who appear or figure in some way in the organisation (excursions, temporary workers, employees of external firms working within the firm, construction workers on the site, etc.) and on citizens (e.g. passers-by) who may be affected by the activities of the organisation (or its building).
