SUMMARY 02/2005

Manager's views

In the last issue, the readers of Stavební listy could find a new column dealing with management and the problems of business, business economics etc. in general, which continues in this issue with an article called How to improve.

One of the problematic requirements of the standard ISO 9001 in force has been the same for four years since the introduction of the standard - improvement. The essential questions in this respect are: What to improve, how many improvement activities should exist, and how to prove the improvement?

Chapter number eight of the standard ČSN EN ISO 9001:2001 called Measurement, analysis and improvement, requires, among others fto plan and apply processes of monitoring, measurement, analysis, and improvementud. These should be connected with proving the product compliance, securing compliance of the system (QMS) or continuous improvement of QMS effectiveness. The standard also prescribes determining the applicable methods, including statistic ones, and the scope of their use.

But how to apply improvement in practice in the building industry, under conditions, when each order is specific, and use of statistics methods is problematic as well?

Radlice radial road - from territorial to investment preparation

By opening the Mrázovka tunnel and the connected bridging of Plzeňská Street, a continuous section of the city ring was put into operation in its whole southern and western segment. In the previous instalment of the series about traffic constructions in Prague, the progress of preparation of the subsequent sections of the City ring in the northern segment was described. In the next instalment, we will focus on another component of the Prague superior communication system - Radlice radial road.

Static comments on superstructures of panel houses

Within regeneration of panel houses, the investor often comes with a request for realization of superstructures on the existing buildings. In this way, they also try to solve the reconstruction of older housing units, the tenants (owners) of which are often unable to finance such action. By creating apartments in the superstructural part, the new owners participate in financing the repairs of the whole house as well (external cladding, roof cladding, installations etc.) It is noteworthy, how often the reconstructions and superstructures of panel houses are realized in little responsible manner.

In the article, we ponder over some static problems connected with designing and realization of superstructures in practice.
